Anecdote from SAHAMATI Annual Report 2009

SAHAMATI Ambulance Service

Since its inauguration to present (31st December 2009), altogether 6,615 people have utilized the ambulance service. In the year 2009 alone, 1,049 individuals (440 females and 609 males) benefited from the service.

Introduction

Transportation plays a pivotal role in ensuring timely medical treatment. Unfortunately, in the past, there have been recurring cases of death due to the unavailability of proper transportation, preventing sick individuals from accessing medical care when urgently needed.

Initiative by SAHAMATI

Recognizing this critical gap, SAHAMATI initiated an ambulance service in 2003. This 24-hour service ensures the pickup and drop-off of patients from and to any accessible part of the state.

Special Benefits

SAHAMATI extends additional support to specific groups and members:

  • Discount for Deprived Groups: Members of marginalized communities such as Bote, Majhi, Musher, and Dalit are eligible for a 20% discount on the service charge.
  • Discount for Members and Staff: Members, staff of SAHAMATI, SAHAJ, and their families benefit from a 10% discount on ambulance services.

In 2009, out of the total beneficiaries, 135 people received the special discount service, highlighting SAHAMATI’s commitment to inclusivity and support for underprivileged groups.
