• TULI'S PIGS MAKE HER A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR

Tuli with PigsSometimes I saw him in a dream. I was satisfied when I saw him in the dream and get the chance to talk with him over phone. Our couple as like of a dove. We are very cooperative to each other. We got married by loving each other. He is not ever seen aggressive but instead used to be I sometimes. I was not interested to send him overseas but when we reached to 4 family members from 2 then it was difficult to sustain and provide education to the children, so I was obliged.

When she is talking and discussing that her husband is in a foreign country, her eyes become full with tears. "Not necessary to worry this much, he is coming soon", said her friends in the meeting. Then laughter covers to the meeting room.

Tuli Maya Saru who passed 3 decades by age, is a resident of Ratanpur VDC ward No-6, and her father's house is in Dode village of the same VDC. She is active in Milijuli Mahila Pig farming Samuha (women group for pig farming). She is the eldest daughter of her parents and third youngest daughter in law in her family. Now, she has one son and one daughter. She is just very little literate for which she feels bad. Due to that she is thinking to give education to her children at least up to Bachelors Degree. Villagers asked her: "What do you do if your daughter will be going to elope?" Saru replied: "If she does so, no one can control. I think that she will not do that because she is very clever at study." After saying that, Saru became very serious.

Today her friends have covered her house due to fact that her pig gave birth to 11 piglets. The pig was brought from Dharan with the support by SAMUNNATI program. After seven months the pig became pregnant and gave birth 1 hundred and 16 days later. Again 45 days later Saru sold 8 of the piglets and kept the remaining 3 pigs now. She sold the piglets for at least 1500 each. The income motivated her to become a successful pig entrepreneur in the days to come. She provides one kg feed to each pig per day which is out of her own house feed.

Initially, she kept the pigs in small wooden pigsty. Now, she is keeping the pigs in standard and width pigsty, constructed by concrete after receiving a 7 days long piggery management training, provided by SAMUNNATI program. The pigsty has also facilities of drainage. It is easy to make it clean, easier than the previous pigsty. Clean and hygiene pigsty makes the growth rate of pigs faster. Due to cleanness, different types of transmitted diseases can be better preserved. Saru has a good experience how to get more benefit out of hybrid than of the locals. She adds, the more pigs you keep the more benefit you can get.

The concrete pigsty does not have the possibility to facture the pig's legs or other kinds of disaster but that possibility was seen in wooden pigsty. It is easy to manage urine and stool in concrete pigsty properly. She shares her experiences that it is better to keep modern pigsty than the traditional ones. She is trying to call her husband and put the money in his hand from her own income. She is thinking how she was once only begging money from him. She is not ready to send her husband overseas again and request him to stay here and keep the pigs for income generation as it is very difficult to pass the life alone.
