• MARGINALIZED PEOPLE
The
major target groups of SAHAMATI are marginalized community people that
include community from traditional inhabitants, scheduled castes, landless,
indigenous and ethnic groups to establish their rights and improve their
living conditions.
The target community has remained behind from health, nutritious food
and education and livelihood opportunities. The community itself is rooted
from bad habits like drinking alcohol, gambling and other traditional
cultures. All most all the family members work for daily feeding. With
the changes in infrastructure and industrialization, the traditional occupation
of these people has been threatened as their livelihood strategy was based
on the traditional way of life. These people are illiterated and the coming
new generation seems to be illiterated, too, as they have no time for
their children. Most of the children do not go to school and those who
go to school have high chances of drop out, as they have to look after
their younger siblings and perform household chores.
Most of the target community are landless and are living in wasteland
around the riverbanks. The house is very inadequate to easily fit all
the family members for their living. The houses are straw made as a result
these people have to tolerate the heavy rainfall, heat and thunderstorms
every year. The migration rate is very high in this community as they
roam around for the daily wages.
